‘2 Friends Tour’ Announced – Amy & MWS…

Multi-platinum recording artists Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith have announced plans for a multi-city U.S. tour that will reunite these two iconic singer/songwriters for the first time on the road together (for a non-holiday tour) in more than two decades. Kicking off in early February, the “2 Friends” tour is slated to hit approximately 20 cities across the country, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Omaha, Minneapolis and Columbus (Ohio), among others.

Undoubtedly a landmark experience for music fans, the tour showcases two of Christian music’s most recognized and beloved artists who have, together, won nine GRAMMY® Awards and sold more than 47 million albums. The two first toured together in 1982 on Grant’s Age to Age Tour. Her Age to Age album was exploding up the Christian music charts, thanks to hits like “El Shaddai” and “Sing Your Praise To The Lord.” Smith toured as Grant’s keyboard player and opening act, supporting his debut release, Project, which generated instant classics like “Great Is The Lord” and “Friends.” They toured together on and off through the rest of that decade, culminating in the record-setting “Lead Me On” tour. They have continued to collaborate together musically over the years.

“I’ve always said I wouldn’t be where I am without Amy Grant,” Smith says. “When Amy hired me to play keyboards for her, I never could have anticipated where it would take me. This many years later, to get to tour together again is just awesome. When I think about set lists and what we might do together, the question isn’t, ‘Where do we start?’ The question is, ‘Where do we stop?’ This will be a fun night with a lot of great memories.”

“That first decade we toured together was really pretty amazing,” Grant adds. “There’s a nostalgia element that comes with having worked with someone solidly for so long and I’m ecstatic about hitting the road with Michael again. We will share the stage and participate in each other’s sets. But no kidding, I will have just as much fun sitting on the side of the stage and watching him. It will be like old times.”
Both artists will perform music from their vast catalog of fan favorites, along with selections from their current chart-topping albums: Grant’s Somewhere Down The Road (March 2010), and Smith’s brand new project, Wonder (Sept. 2010). Ticket information for the 2 Friends Tour will be available on each artist’s website:  www.amygrant.com and www.michaelwsmith.com.

Pre-sales will be announced concert by concert to Friends of Amy via the site messageboard.:  Click here to sign-up now.

Amy Grant’s career spans over 30 years and stretches from her roots in gospel into an iconic pop star, songwriter, television personality and philanthropist. She also has six #1 hits, including “Baby, Baby,” and “Every Heartbeat” and is one of only two Christian artists to be awarded a star on the legendary Walk of Fame in Hollywood.

Grant released her first live recording in 25 years with Time Again…Amy Grant Live in September 2006, and then announced her first ever label shift to EMI Music Group where her entire music catalog was re-mastered.  In March of 2010, Grant released Somewhere Down The Road, a collection of songs about the journey of life and faith. The album debuted at #2 on the iTunes Christian music chart and the first single, “Better Than A Hallelujah,” was a Top 10 Christian radio hit and #1 on the iTunes Christian singles chart. I am trying to find out if there is any special seating for disabled people at the concert in Grove City Ohio on February 24th. Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith were two of the first Christian artists I ever heard and two of the concerts I ever attended. Michael W. Smith’s christams concert was also the first concert I ever took my husband to. I am visually impaired and have been trying to find out about tickets and there is no information that I have been able to find about accessable seating. I love concerts, but I only see short distances clearly. I love hearing the music, but I also enjoy seeing them. This concert would mean a lot to me since it is the day after my birthday.

You need to come back to Colorado Springs or as I like to think of it as Franklin West.

  • Pastor Terry McLaughlin

What a great tour to bring to the Creation Festivals. You have both been there many times and this would be the ideal way to make it possible for thousands of your supporters to bring praise to JESUS through your appearance together. I have been the Prayer Tent Supervisor for Creation Northwest since it began in 1998, and I would love to see our prayer tent packed to overflowing once again with the impact of your music and challenge for people to come to JESUS and take HIM as SAVIOR and LORD while they still have time!
May your prayer be that JESUS CHRIST IS PRAISED and that countless souls would be brought into HIS KINGDOM as you together “Sing your praise to the Lord!”

    Pastor Terry McLaughlin

  • Kristin

Texas, Come to Austin area, please.
You two, were the inspirations that God used when I wrote my first songs.
I had an instrumental songs that were used and patterned after how he did his first album “Project” to open my concerts just like Michael W. Smith did.

Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith are forever fondly in the memories of thousands of people in New Mexico because of K-LYT Radio (Albuquerque) in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Their popularity obviously grew beyond that with each of their enormous success in General Market Radio in the late 80’s through today. While K-LYT Radio’s concert team, Mountaintop Promotions is no longer in tact, I would sure like to appeal to the promoters of the, “2 Friends Tour” to contact someone in Albuquerque to include this, the largest city on I-40 between Nashville and Los Angeles on it’s western swing. I’m sure that the thousands of then young people, now grown up and with families of their own would LOVE to see them again and introduce their kids to what we grew up with, and what, in many cases introduced us to Jesus and/or strengthened our faith. Amy, we really enjoyed promoting your Albuquerque show during the success of, “Find A Way” in the early 80’s. Let’s do it again!

  • Denise Carter

Come back to Orlando!!! Heard Amy at Northland – I’ve been a fan for ages – brought my girls, who are now even bigger fans.

  • Lynda House

I love your music and have been a fan from the beginning. So sad you are not coming to Texas!

  • http://www.kingdomlifecc.org Leslie Wight

I would like to inquire as to whether the 2 Friends Tour would be available to perform at our church on either of the following two dates?

    Friday, September 30, 2011
    Saturday, October 1, 2011

We can seat approximately 1900 people.
Also, if I may ask what the cost is to be blessed by Ms. Grant and Mr. Smith, I would appreciate that information as well.

  • Alan

Clearly, some dates in Central and the West are needed! 😀
