Amy Grant Shares Bill With Former Keyboardist

Amy Grant fondly recalls the days in the mid-80s when Michael W. Smith was the keyboardist in her band as well as her opening act. But these days she’s pefectly happy to share the bill as equals.

“We’ve had a whole life since then,” said Grant, 49, who’s straddled the pop and contemporary Christian markets with hits such as “Baby Baby,” “Every Heartbeat,” “That’s What Love is For” and “The Next Time I Fall” with Peter Cetera. “He married a girl that I went to high school with. We’ve watched each other’s kids grow up. It’s not like we’ve been having barbecues in our back yards all the time … but he feels just like family.

Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith performed at the DTE Energy Music Theatre on August 8th in an amazing concert experience enjoyed by all.

I have been listening to Amy Grant for so long that I don’t remember life without her music. The new album is wonderful. My heart identifies with her work. I especially love the duet with Sarah Chapman and the new video for “Better Than A Hallelujah” And of course, the remaking of “Arms of Love” — One of the songs God used to reach me and keep my from suicide as a youth.

May blessings abundantly pour out on Amy and her family and her team as well.

I was at that concert @ DTE and it was so great to see them together again on stage. What an amazing night! Although it was bittersweet, it was very nostalgic hearing those songs and seeing Amy & Michael that it brought back so many memories, good and not so good. I, too, don’t know life without Amy’s music (I’ve been a fan since I was 3) for almost 30 years her music has moved me. Thank you, Amy, for being who you are. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a better daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Christian because of how you’ve inspired me. God bless you always, Amy, you are truly “beloved”.

I was at the concert at DTE. Did not realize at the time that this was a special engagement and not their regular tour. Made this a special evening. Both Amy and Michael performed wonderfully. I thank our local radio station WMUZ for doing a fabulous job of promoting this concert. It is fantastic that christian performers can fill and rock the house. God’s Peace
